Downsizing Your Photo Collection
YOU CAN’T TAKE IT ALL!
Right now, I’m not moving but I know several people who are and they are overwhelmed with years of accumulation. How do you cull so much stuff? You pare it down to what you need. Sounds easy. But what about the sentimental stuff like your priceless photos and videos? Also, things gifted to you by someone special, cards with your grandmother’s handwriting in them, and those letters and recipes.
Are you in the process of downsizing? Are you moving to a smaller house, apartment, or condo? Maybe you are helping someone you love transition to a care facility. Though downsizing can offer many benefits like lower utilities and more manageable upkeep, it can also be very stressful and emotional.
I received a call today from a lady asking what could be done with old family albums. Her folks are moving into an independent living facility from a larger house. There just will not be room for them. We agreed that scanning them would be great because not only will it save space, but they will be able to view them easily on a screen. They will also be able to give a copy to their loved ones!
Whatever the reason for downsizing, there are solutions. If the memory and sentiment are what you are clinging onto, consider taking photos of that portfolio of your children’s school artwork, report cards, or sports awards. You would then have them digitized! How about your paperwork? You can scan certificates, agreements, and historical documents too. If you aren’t up to the technology aspect of digitizing, seek help from your family or call a professional. This is a task you could delegate. After all, you have other decisions to make and a new place to look forward to!
